The Outlaw's Tale was fun. We really used what each of us knows about the period to good advantage. I don't remember whose idea this one was -- and that became the usual thing for plots and even the actual writing. A good collaboration produces a "third voice," one that belongs to neither of the authors. This can be good, but it's hard, very hard, to surrender one's own voice. We used our camping experiences to describe what it's like to live in the woods when it's raining.
