Knight Fall was originally published in hardcover as Murder at the War. This was the best-selling of the Peter Brichter series. Many people in the Society for Creative Anachronism bought it to explain to their friends and relatives what the SCA was about -- except, of course, we don't have real murders. I really enjoyed writing this one -- the research was so much fun.

The book has recently been reissued by FTL Publications, and won First Place - Adult Fiction in the 2001 Midwest Book Awards.

There were some interesting problems with the dust jacket of that first edition of Murder At The War: I sent reference photos to Saint Martin's Press so the artist would know what a War looked like. The artist was faithful to the photos, which meant there were several recognizable Real People in the picture. I had to swiftly track them down and promise them complimentary copies in exchange for their permission to use their likenesses. Fortunately, they were more tickled than annoyed.

At the end of the book, Peter is granted an augmentation of arms: a silver star, in recognition of his help as the King's investigator. His arms are then sable, a lit candle, with a mullet argent in sinister chief. This is the design chosen as the background image on this site for the Peter Brichter books.
